2 kgs of heroin, cash recovered; 5 Myanmar nationals arrested

Aizawl: Assam Rifles personnel and Mizoram police posted at Mizoram-Myanmar border Champhai district has seized 2 kilos and 61 grams of heroin and ‘illegal cash’ to the tune of over Rs 1.21 crore in three joint operations at Zote and Zokhawthar villages.

A press release issued by the Assam Rifles on Saturday said that recovered 2 kilos and 61 grams of Heroin worth Rs. 18.30 Crore and illegal cash of Indian Rupee 1.21 crore in general area of Zote and Zokhawthar in Champhai on Friday and arrested five Myanmar nationals in three separate operations.

The operation was carried out by a combined team of Assam Rifles and Police Dept, Champhai based on specific information. The entire consignment of illegal cash and heroin totalling Rs. 19.52 crore, the press release said.

Vanlalliana (32) Khawmawi village, Myanmar and Haukhangin (40), Bulfek village in Myanmar were arrested for allegedly trafficking heroin, while  Thangsiankhup (15), Thangkhankima (20) and Chinlamthanga (15), all residents of Bukphir village in Myanmar were arrested for possession of illegal cash.

 The accused have been handed over to Police Department in Champhai for further legal proceedings. Criminal cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and Foreigners Act.
