Zohmingthanga said that two non-tribals from Tripura – Prasanjit Nama (24) a resident of Manikyanagar and Subrata Sarkar (29) of Kalsimura, Kalamchora Police Station, West Tripura District in Tripura were arrested and detained a brand new Mahindra XUV 300 (not yet registered) used for transportation of the contraband.
The Methamphetamine tablets were smuggled from Myanmar and to be sold outside Mizoram, the state Excise and Narcotics department officials, based on the revelation of the accused persons during interrogations, said.
The packets of Methamphetamine were concealed in false compartments of the car, he said, adding that the 2 arrested persons are most likely only mules, but not the real owners and they do not know the rate of the tablets.
The two accused were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and were produced before the Special Judge (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) in Aizawl.
He said that the department is yet to record any Methamphetamine addicts in Mizoram while some young people might have consume the tablets on a trial basis.
Without any addicts or social users in the state, all the Methamphetamine consignment are meant to be sold outside the state, he added.
