Aizawl: A fast-track court in southern Mizoram’s Lunglei on Friday convicted a 45-year-old man for raping his three biological minor daughters.
District and Sessions Judge of Lunglei Judicial district and Special Judge (POCSO) Vanlalenmawia on Friday convicted the rapist, a resident of south Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district under section 506 Indian Penal Code and section 6 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
Vanlalenmawia said that he will pronounce the sentence/quantum of punishment on Monday.
The convicted person was remanded to judicial custody and sent to Lunglei district jail from where he will be produced before the court for sentence hearing.
The man, according to the prosecution, used to rape his own three daughters aged 12, 10 and 7 years olds during the absence of his wife.
The three daughters informed their mother for three times that their father used to rape them and she filed FIR, against which a criminal case was registered at Lawngtlai Police Station on August 5, 2022.
The father was arrested by the Police on August 9, 2022.
The mother was guided by the members of the Lawngtlai district Child Welfare Committee in filing a complaint with the Police, the prosecution said.
After examination of witnesses, Vanlalenmawia convicted the accused for perpetrating the nauseating crime. The Judge said that the convicted person can be sentenced to undergo life imprisonment or 20 years rigorous imprisonment.
