555 people infected with Dengue in Mizoram

Aizawl: There were 555 people infected with Dengue in Mizoram since January 1 till August 27, Health department’s State Vector Borne Disease Control (SVBDC) officials said on Monday.

The officials said that 5,906 samples have been tested during the period in 8 districts. No one has died due to the Dengue infections during this year while it claimed 5 lives last year.

Aizawl district, especially the capital Aizawl city has the highest number of Dengue infections at 386 cases, followed by south Mizoram’s Lunglei district where 125 infections have been detected.

State health department officials even undertook fogging of some areas Bawngkawn neighbourhood, situated in the northern part of Aizawl city recently as there were too many Dengue cases in the locality.

Dengue infections have been first recorded in Mizoram since February 2016 when 58 cases were identified during that year. 

While more Dengue infections were detected in the following years, the worst year was 2022 when almost 2,000 cases were detected and 5 residents of Aizawl city succumbed to the infections during October and November.
