Zohmingthanga said that the Excise and Narcotics officials were working with the Assam Rifles personnel deployed along the Myanmar border areas.
He said that Thangsanglian (38) of Bulfek village in Chin State of Myanmar and Lalrinmuana (32) of Khawzawl town in Khawzawl district were arrested for alleged possession of the contraband. The two accused were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
He said that, with this latest seizure, the state Excise and Narcotics department officials have seized 67 kilos and 010 grams of heroin since January 1 till August 31 this year.
They also seized 42 kilos and 715 grams of Methamphetamine during the same period along with 301 grams of opium and 110 kilos and 375 grams of ganja (cannabis).
Upsurge in narcotics and drugs trafficking leading to seizure of large amount by law enforcement agencies in Mizoram had been witnessed after the military coup in Myanmar in February resulting in the absence of efficient administration in the neighbouring country especially Chin state, adjoining Mizoram, officials said.
Further increase in the flow of drug trafficking occurred since Manipur ethnic crisis, the officials added.
