Huge cache of ammos seized in Siaha district

Aizawl: Acting on specific intelligence Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police launched a joint operation in general area of Tlangpuikawn in Siaha district and recovered a huge cache of ammunition on Monday, a press statement issued by the Assam Rifles in Aizawl said on Tuesday. 

The statement said that on receipt of inputs from sources regarding movement of large rounds of ammunition from Archung (Lawngtlai dist) to Lawngtlai the joint team established a joint check post. 

The party searched the suspected vehicles (three two wheelers) at the check post near Tlangpuikawn and recovered 1800 rounds of AK-47 assault rifles ammunition from of three individuals, including two  Myanmar nationals. 

Bawi Thang Lian (33), a Myanmar national, Lalrinnunga (41), Indian citizen and Khua Kham Thang (32), Myanmar national were arrested for trying to smuggle the ammunitions to Myanmar.

It is suspected that the ammunitions were to be smuggled to insurgent groups operating in the Chin state of Myanmar adjoining Mizoram.

The seized ammunitions and the accused persons were handed over to Siaha Police Station for further investigations.
