Aizawl: Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Lalsawta will contest from the Aizawl West-3 assembly seat in the coming 40-member state legislative assembly elections to be held on November 7, according to the list of candidates released by the All India Congress Committee on Monday.
Lalsawta will face a tough contest from the present incumbent V L Zaithanzama of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and retired state PWD engineer-in-chief K Lalsawmvela, former underground personnel and present Adviser to Chief Minister (technical) who is contesting on the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) ticket.
State PCC senior Vice President Lal Thanzara, younger brother of the longest serving Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla is contesting from his home turf Aizawl North-III. He will be facing the present legislator C Lalmuanpuia of the MNF and a journalist-turned politician, K Sapdanga, working president of the ZPM.
MPCC vice president Lalnunmawia Chuaungo, former state chief secretary and retired IAS officer will contest from Aizawl North-1 seat. He will be confronting the present MLA, former Deputy Speaker Vanlalhlana of the ZPM and Power Minister R. Lalzirliana of the MNF.
MPCC treasurer Lalmalsawma Nghaka is contesting from Aizawl South-II assembly seat against the present incumbent ZPM’s Lalchhuanthanga and Denghmingthanga of the MNF.
Congress legislature party (CLP) leader and former minister Zodintluanga Ralte will try his luck again from his home turf Thorang assembly seat in south Mizoram’s Lunglei district.
The Congress fields seven former ministers for the coming polls while a high majority of the candidate is new faces and young people. Two women Congressmen are in the fray including former Minister of State Lalawmpuii Chawngthu and Miriem L. Hrangchal.
