Meitei miscreants loot arms again!

Aizawl: In disturbing incident, a large group of Meitei miscreants launched an attack on the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) camp in the Bishnupur district of violence-torn Manipur, and looted a significant cache of service weapons, a substantial quantity of ammunition rounds, and various types of munitions.
Quarter master of the 2nd battalion of the IRB O Premananda Singh, in a complaint filed to the Officer-in-Charge of Moirang Police Station said that over 500 people coming in around 40 vehicles and on foot attacked the IRB camp at around 9:45 AM on Thursday and decamped with huge amount of weapons.
Singh, in his complaint, said that the miscreants overpowered the sentry of the main gate and the quarter guard before looting the battalion’s Armed Kote.
“In order to control the mob, 327 rounds and 20 tear smoke shells were fired,” he said. But no one was injured in the ‘scuffle’.
The report of the quarter master said that the mob snatched 1 AK assault rifle, 25 INSAS rifles, 4 Ghatak rifles, 5 INSAS LMGs, 5 MP-5 rifles, 124 hand grenades, 21 SMC carbines, 195 self-loading rifles (SLRs), 16 numbers of .99mm pistols, 134 detonators, 23 GF rifles, 81 numbers of 51 HE bombs and 19,000 rounds of live ammunition.
Meitei groups have been involved in looting approximately 4,000 firearms and over 500,000 live rounds of ammunition since the violence erupted on May 3. These looting incidents have targeted various Manipur Police establishments, including Manipur Rifles, IRB, Police Training Centers, and Police Stations. Only a fraction of these stolen arms, around 1,000, have been recovered thus far.
In a separate development, a confrontation on Thursday between Meitei women, known as Meira Paibis, attempting to forcibly enter Lamka (Churachandpur), and a combined force comprising Assam Rifles and Rapid Action Force personnel, resulted in about 30 individuals sustaining injuries.
