Mizoram Mahila Congress prez calls for Kuki-Mizo unity

Aizawl: Former Minister and president of the Mizoram Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (MPMCC) Vanlalawmpuii Chawngthu on Thursday said that all the ethnic Mizos inside Mizoram and outside the state should unite and show solidarity to the immense sufferings of the kindred brothers and sisters in Manipur.

In a meeting of MPMCC at the Congress Bhavan in Aizawl, Chawngthu strongly condemned the sanguinary acts of the majority Meitei mobs who gang-raped, sexually molested and publicly paraded naked two Kuki-Mizo women. She demanded stern action against the perpetrators of the heinous crime against women and humanity.

“We have to take up the issue of the sufferings of the Kuki-Mizo community in the neighbouring state in a united front,” she said, adding that such crime against women can never be condoned.

She said that crime against humanity and women was perpetrated in a BJP-ruled state and the country which shows that the ethnic Mizos, especially women, are not safe under the BJP rule.

“We have to oppose the BJP to safeguard our future generations, our people and our religion as well as unite to throw the BJP out from power,” she said.

She also urged state Chief Minister Zoramthanga, leader of the constituent party of the BJP led NDA to strongly voice his condemnation on the most horrible incident.

The MPMCC workers also took out a rally in front of the Congress Bhavan protesting inflation and rising prices of essential commodities in Mizoram and the rest of the country.
