Mizoram Presbyterian Church has donated Rs 94.2 lakh for Manipur’s IDPs

Aizawl: Meeting of the Synod Executive Committee (SEC), the second highest decision making authority of the Presbyterian Church of India’s Mizoram Synod was informed on Saturday that the church has donated Rs 94.2 lakh to the internally displaced people in Manipur as humanitarian assistance.

The SEC meeting which began on Thursday will continue till Monday and the agendas adopted by the meeting will be deliberated at the Synod conference, the highest decision making authority of the Presbyterian Church in the state.

The meeting was informed that Rs. 94.2 lakh was being distributed to the IDPs displaced in Manipur due to the ongoing ethnic-strife in the neighbouring state for reconstruction of their homes burned to the ground in the ethnic conflict between majority Meitei community and the tribal ethnic Mizo community, as well as for relief works.

It was also decided that Rs. 5 lakh will be donated for purchase of utensils for the inmates of the relief camps. Clothes, blankets and matresses donated by members of the church through 5 pastorals have been transported to Churachandpur on November 5, a report presented in the SEC meeting said.

Different church denominations and civil societies in the state have been doling out humanitarian assistance to the ethnic Mizo IDPs, both in Manipur and to the Manipur IDPs taking shelter in Mizoram since the ethnic clashes erupted in the neighbouring state on May 3 till date.
