Mizoram unit BJP says NO to UCC

Aizawl: Mizoram state BJP said that Uniform Civil Code (UCC) should not be implemented in Mizoram and other northeastern states, a press release issued by the state BJP on Thursday said.

Addressing a meeting of office bearers of BJP’s eastern zone covering 12 states in Guwahati on Thursday, Mizoram Pradesh BJP President Vanlalhmuaka said that UCC should never be implemented in the northeastern states.

 The meeting was held on political scenario and challenges, in which several issues facing the 12 eastern states, participated discussed the political scenarios in these states.

Vanlalhmuaka also said that violence in Manipur should also be stopped immediately.

The Mizoram BJP unit had earlier demanded sacking of BJP government led by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and immediate imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur.

They also said that attacks against the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar-Mizo community in the neighboring state by the majority Meitei community by the state administration.

The state saffron party also had raised its demand for not enforcing the UCC in Mizoram even if the proposed legislation is passed by the Parliament.
