MZP flays PM Modi on Manipur violence

Aizawl: If Prime Minister Modi ever visits Mizoram, students will stage a massive protest by wearing ‘puandum’ (a traditional way of showing extreme anger or mourning the dead people), President of Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Mizo students’ apex body, H Lalthianghlima said on Thursday.

Lalthianghlima while addressing the students participating in the sit-in protest organised by the MZP and the North East Students Organisation (NESO) in Aizawl, demanded that the central government should intervene to end the 6 month-long ethnic violence in Manipura rather than remaining a mute spectator from Delhi.

The MZP president bashed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting the trouble-torn state of Manipur which is an integral part of India.

He also criticised the present Chief Minister Zoramthanga for not visiting Manipur even once to allay the sufferings and fear of the ethnic Mizos living in the hill areas and implored that the new chief minister in the next government should visit the neighbouring state immediately.

The Mizo students will leave no stones unturned so find permanent solution to the ethnic violance in Manipur, he said

The MZP President lamented that the sufferings of the people in Manipur due to ethnic strife have continued for too long which included a large number of students being unable to resume their studies.

The MZP on Thursday joined the other constituents of the NESO in the region’s “Demonstration for Peace and Permanent Solution in Manipur” in Aizawl. The demonstration was held in the capital cities of all the states in the region.

There are eight northeast-based student organisation united under NESO – Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU).
