Over 3 kgs of heroin seized in Mizoram during 24 hours

 

Aizawl: Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department officials seized 3.161 kgs of heroin in four different places during the last 24 hours and arrested 11 people, including three women in this connection, department spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga said on Friday.

Zohmingthanga said that the officials seized 1.314 kgs of heroin near Keifang village in Saitual district on Friday and arrested five people – Monir Uddin, 30, of Pakuwapunji Bhaibonti, Sohalomara F.V. Hailakandi, Assam; Golam Wazid Bhaubhuiya, 38, and Mayazul Hoque Bharbhuiya, 37, both residents of Ramnagar, Cachar, Assam; Barhan Uddin Tapahar, 43, and Salman Uddin Laskar, 23, of Dholai, Hailakandi, Assam for alleged possession of the contraband.

The accused persons said that they were intending to sell the contraband outside Mizoram and the two vehicles used for transportation of the drugs were seized.

The officials also seized 109 grams of heroin at Brigade heighbourhood on Friday morning and arrested Zosangpuii (51) of the same locality in this connection.

Excise and Narcotics department officials also seized 1 kilo and 480 grams of heroin at Tuikhurhlu hamlet near Aizawl on Thursday and arrested Niengboi (33) and Thlingneihhat (33) both from Lamka and Zoramnghaka of Tuikhurhlu for alleged illegal possession and trafficking of the contraband.

Zohmingthanga said that Thlingneihhat is internally displaced person taking shelter at Tuikhurhlu hamlet due to violence in Manipur.

Lalthantluanga, 30, of Khawmawi, Chin state, Myanmar and Vanlalsawma, 24, of Myanmar border Zotlang village in Champhai district were arrested by the state excise and narcotics officials of Thursday for alleged possession of 258 grams of heroin.

All the 11 accused were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Meanwhile, the state Police officials also seized 256 grams of heroin from the illegal possession of Vanzalala, 35, and Lalthanmawii, 42, both residents of Chhipchang, Myanmar at Hlimen, in the southern outskirts of Aizawl on Thursday. 

A case under section 21(c)/29 of ND& PS Act read with 14A Foreigners Act registered at Special Narcotic Police Station in Aizawl for further investigation.
