Teacher arrested on suspicion of murdering live-in partner

Aizawl: A 57-year old man, a teacher in a government-run high school, was arrested by Police and is being detained at the Thenzawl Police Station in central Mizoram’s Serchhip district on suspicion of murdering his live-in partner.

Police said that the victim Saidingliani Sailo, 33, and her live-in partner C. Lalliana were having heated arguments on Thursday night which had turned violent.

Lalliana left their home to attend the school sports on Friday morning without informing anyone about the violent domestic altercations the previous night.

The victim, who could venture outside in the morning began to have severe problems on Friday night and suddenly died, the neighbours said.

The neighbours said that the couple (not married) used to have domestic altercations even before this incident due to drunkeness.

The woman’s relatives suspected  that Sailo died due to being beaten up, FIR was submitted at the Thenzawl Police Station and the Police have launched investigation into the mysterious death of the woman.

The local people said that Lalliana left his wife and children to live with Saidingliani and had not been separated despite repeated domestic violence.
