Chin Church leaders from US calls CM Zoramthanga at his office on Monday

Aizawl: A delegation from the Chin United Pentecostal Church (UPC) of the USA extended their heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Monday for his unwavering support and compassion towards Myanmarese refugees in Mizoram.

Led by Reverend Lalhmingthanga, President of Chin UPC, USA, the delegation had the privilege of meeting Zoramthanga at his office in Aizawl, where they conveyed their deep sense of appreciation.

“We hold deep gratitude for Chief Minister Zoramthanga, a towering fatherly figure to all ‘Zofa’ (ethnic Mizos) across the world, who stood firmly by us during times of crisis, even against the central government’s directive to deport Myanmar refugees,” expressed the delegation.

The Chief Minister’s resolute stance was highlighted by the delegation, as he not only provided refuge to the displaced individuals but also extended humanitarian aid despite challenging circumstances.

During the meeting, the delegation also shared insights from their visits to various villages offering shelter to Myanmarese refugees. They commended the state government, civil society organizations, and the people of Mizoram for their generous support and care towards these displaced communities.

The delegation members further expressed their deep appreciation for the collective efforts of the state government, civil societies, churches, and the general public in providing essential aid to not only refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh but also to internally displaced individuals from Manipur state.

Zoramthanga emphasised Mizoram’s role as an inclusive and welcoming home to all ethnic Mizos, metaphorically referring to the state as an ‘inpui,’ where the joint family of Mizos resides. He assured that the state government would consistently prioritize the well-being of ethnic Mizo refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), emphasizing the significance of unity among the ‘Zofa’ community.

In a poignant conclusion, the delegation joined in prayer for Chief Minister Zoramthanga, invoking blessings from above for his continued endeavors in guiding the people.

The warmth of Mizoram’s hospitality and the compassionate leadership of Chief Minister Zoramthanga shine brightly, serving as an example of humanity and solidarity during challenging times.
