Sailo had convicted Zobiaksanga of Serchhip town in central Mizoram’s Serchhip district on Wednesday under section 302 Indian Penal Code (IPC) and pronounced the quantum of punishment on Thursday.
According to the prosecution’s story, beighbours of Zobiaksanga and his wife Rosangzuali heard a commotion which sounded like a woman being beaten up at around 2.30 to 3 pm on May 30.
Zobiaksanga called his younger brother who was staying in the above floor by phone and the younger brother found his brother’s wife lying in a pool of blood inside the bedroom.
He then called his relatives while the neighbours also gathered in the house and informed the local leaders, who in turn called the Police.
Zobiaksanga was taken to the Serchhip Police Station where he was interrogated and a murder case under section 302 registered against him.
Rosangzuali sustained multiple injuries in different parts of her body, especially on her face and head and the room was strewn with blood, witnesses said.
She left her 3-year-old son and 6-month-old daughter. He body was taken to Lungleng village where funeral was held the next day.
